Aliens on the Beach Survey

Project UFO would like to thank all participants who came out to the end-of-the-summer
Aliens on the Beach Bash!

Here are some photos from the event:

Calling all volunteers for next year!

  • Interested in getting out for some fun in the sun, while learning about the wild and wacky world of invasive alien aquatic species

  • Want to get up close and personal with alien creatures that have recently invaded or we're watching out for, like the European green crab, the lacy crust bryozoan, and the oyster thief?

  • Then come out and join us next spring and summer and volunteer some time for our Aliens on the Beach Survey!

  • Project UFO, in cooperation with ACAP Cape Breton (ACAPCB) coordinates volunteer Aliens on the Beach Surveys throughout the spring and summer to census invasive species that have already arrived, and to be on the lookout for ones that may be on their way. This survey is a volunteer monitoring program to help us better understand the status of invasive alien species in our estuarine and coastal habitats. Surveys are conducted primarily on local beaches within Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. Scientists from ACAPCB and CBU compile the data collected from the survey, and results will be shared with the public.

  • If you are a local school teacher or youth group coordinator (e.g. scouts or guides), please contact us if you are interested in a visit by Project UFO team members. We have a number of games and activities for children ages 6-12.
